Originally from Virginia Beach, VA
1st full season racing as a professional.
How did you get started?
I moved across the country from Virginia Beach, VA in the Fall of 2003 to San Diego for the weather and general lifestyle. Once I moved out here I bought a road bike and rode as much as I could (no running or swimming at all). It was not until 2004 that I began to compete in multisport races (duathlon) and 2005 was my first year competing in triathlons. The company I was working for at the time flew me out to Kona to watch the Ironman World Championship and I immediately fell in love with the sport. I promised myself I would not return to the island until I earned my right to toe the starting line for the race. I began with some shorter distance triathlons in 2005 and in 2006 attempted my 1st Ironman in Coeur d’Alene. I had finally earned my right to compete in Hawaii and it was everything I had imagined it to be and more.
List your competitive highlights:
- 4 x USA Triathlon All-American
- 2 x Inside Triathlon All-American
What are you plans for this season?
This will be my first full year racing as a pro. I was injured from day 1 last season and will return to a high level of competition this season. I strive to qualify for the Ironman World Championship in Kona this October. This is also the first year coaching the triathlon team at UCSD.
What has been your biggest accomplishment?
Finishing as the 6th American and 4th amateur in the world at Kona in 2007.
